This morning at 6:30 am, Lucy had surgery to put in her second set of tubes in her ears and to remove her adenoids. She did absolutely awesome! Once they get you all checked in, they give the kids "happy juice", which makes them really loopy. Mom and I got a huge kick out of listening to all of the kids waiting for surgery. When we first got there you could hear lots of crying kids and then by the time they came around to each room, all of the cries had turned to giggles and laughing. Mom and I were cracking up! Lucy was especially funny. When she did this 18 months ago, she didn't really have many words, so she did lots of laughing and giggling. But this go around, she has lots of language and we could get a small glimspe into what she was experiencing. She first was coloring in a coloring book that they gave her. She made a red line with the crayon and then started looking at it funny. The next thing we knew, she was pinching at the line trying to pick it up. Then she said, "hey, get off there!". As the medicine took over a little more, she began to get a little woozy. She couldn't sit up straight and was leaning all over the place. At one point, she started to fall forward a little and she turned around behind her and said, "who is pushing me??" The best was once she had kinda fallen over onto the bed and we got her all cuddled up with her pillow and blankets. She looked out into the room and said, "look! BUBBLES!" SHe was pointing and laughing at them just like she was actually seeing bubbles. When I asked her about the bubbles, she told me that they were white and they were little ones. It was a really cute time! Once they took her back, she was away from us for about 20 minutes. Then I was able to go back and be with her in recovery. She did a lot better in recovery than she did the first go around. She pretty much quieted right down and cuddled with me. We were able to leave right away. Once we got home, she cuddled up on the couch to watch whatever show she wanted (Eli always gets to pick). Of course, that means that all morning we have watched every episode of Dora that we have on the DVR. By 10:30 or so, she was completely back to normal. Almost like nothing had ever even happened today. It is amazing! She has been a great patient!
