I read that this year's strawberry season is going to be shorter because of the longer span of cold/frost weather and fluctuation of hot and cold weather. I thought since we didn't really have any plans on Saturday that we should take the kids and pick strawberries. They haven't ever been before, so I thought that they would enjoy it. We drove out to Patterson Farms and picked two gallons of berries. Eli has been asking for us to send strawberries in his lunch box so we HAD to get him some! The kids did really well picking berries. Excpet for Lily giving up on me and sitting down in the middle of the patch! We went before lunch and naps in the heat of the day. They had a great time!

I also wanted to make some more jars of jam. I have spent Sunday cutting some for homemade ice cream tonight, freezing a gallon and making the rest into jam. It was a success. I think I will do peaches next. I love the idea of freezing, canning and eating fruit that was done in its season! YUM-O!

I am terribly impressed! I, too, love the idea of picking and canning...not sure if I ever will do it, but I do like the idea! :)
