After my kids were born, I seriously started thinking more carefully about the food that we put into our bodies. It is a culmination of a variety of things, processed food, harmful chemicals to our bodies and earth, and healthy purposeful living...not just convenience. Then I watched
Food Inc. A movie that changed the way I looked at our food in America and will you as well! I have started out slowly. If we ate food that was processed, we stopped. If it was something we really wanted to still eat, we figured out how to make it ourselves. In the grocery store, I tried buying organic fruits and vegetables. But the biggest change became when I began focusing on buying LOCAL! Farmer's Markets are a wonderful part of communities across the country. You can go to
Local Harvest and find one near you! At our local Farmer's Market, I met Chad. He is a local farmer in my county who raises cows, chickens, and pigs naturally on the land. They are grass fed, with no added hormones or antibiotics. And best yet, they are raised just a few miles from me. I have bought most of my meat for my family from Chad for the better part of the last year. This year, he decided to provide a
CSA for his customers. When we heard about it, we knew this was for us. We paid for one year in the CSA. We get 20 pounds of meat a month. It is a variety of beef, chicken, pork and eggs each month. It is expanding our palets with the peace of mind knowing that we have helped support a small family farmer in our community and we know where the meat has come from. It is one of the best things we have done for our family. So all I have to ask is...what's for dinner?
My freezer
First 2 shelves are filled with meat. 3rd shelf is all of my corn and zuchini!

I joined a coop this year! I get 24 weeks of fresh fruits and veggies - such a great thing to do...and knowing where it's grown - and HOW it's grown gives such peace of mind! Love it! No freezer though...boo!
Yay for more posts Juli!!! Glad you guys are doing well!
