A Garden All My Own...of grass!

Since we began the switch to organic and natural foods, Aaron and I planned to grow our own garden and attempt to eat from it all summer long. Then we also planned to can whatever we could to use throughout the winter months. It is a good theory if you can get the garden to grow. I must admit that I know nothing about growing a garden. My mom gave me a book called, "The Idiots Guide to Organic Gardening" and I still know nothing! So Aaron planted the garden and until today has tended the garden. I haven't even really paid much attention to what even went in the silly thing. Aaron has been gone since Monday and well, we have gotten a LOT of rain in the past few weeks, so this afternoon I decided to walk up to the garden and see how it was doing. I couldn't believe it! It was growing like crazy. The first thing I noticed was how green it was...from all of the grass. In early spring, Aaron tilled up a big square plot of land at the top of our yard and built this little box around where the garden would be. Well, the grass has come back and it is all over the garden. This is what I found:

So I started pulling the grass out. The whole time I was weeding the garden, (in a dress I might add, hey I didn't know what I was getting myself into!) I was thinking, "Maybe this gardening business isn't really for me. Maybe I should just stick to the Farmer's Market." It was dirty, there were bugs biting me, and I even saw a big 'ol spider with an egg sack on her back! But then...I stumbled upon these:

I was giddy with excitement. We had actually grown something in our very own garden!!! They are big too! (I think that they are zucchini) So I started looking some more. There are cucmbers, tomatoes, carrots, beans, strawberries and blueberries!!! WOW!! Nothing else appeared to be ready to pick except these three zucchini, but they were all there. Growing away. I pulled as much grass and weeds out as I could before Eli started yelling for me from the deck about dragon shadows on his wall. So I snapped a few more pictures to capture our garden. I didn't get pictures of everything but I managed to snap some pictures of the big tomatoes and the green beans which we have TONS of! So exciting!!!
